“Georgia’s average remains below $4 per gallon and below the national average, but fuel costs continue to affect household budgets,”Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group, said.

AAA said Savannah had the highest average in Georgia at $3.91, followed by Hinesville-Fort Stewart at $3.89 and Atlanta at $3.82.

AAA also offers tips for fuel savings:

  • Remove unnecessary and bulky items from your car. It takes more fuel to accelerate a heavier car, and the reduction in fuel economy is greater for small cars than for larger models.
  • Plan ahead to accomplish multiple errands in one trip, and whenever possible travel outside high-traffic times of the day.
  • Minimize your use of air conditioning. Even at highway speeds, open windows have less effect on fuel economy than the engine power required to operate the air conditioning compressor.
