Walmart in Chamblee set on fire, suspect arrested

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Chamblee police said they have arrested a man for setting the bathroom aisle section of a Walmart on fire Saturday afternoon.

Police said they arrested 45-year-old Abdul Jabar Raheem Mubbraik Favors Saturday afternoon and charged him with first-degree arson and criminal Damage to property.

Favors was taken to the DeKalb County jail.

The Walmart at 1871 Chamblee Tucker Road remains closed as workers clean up after the fire.

Police received a call at 1:31 p.m. that the suspect had set fire to several bathroom mats and towels.

Police immediately evacuated the Walmart and stopped people from coming in.

Surveillance cameras captured Favors heading toward the Chamblee MARTA station. He was later taken into custody at the Doraville MARTA station.

DeKalb Fire Rescue was able to put out the fire quickly, and nobody was injured.
