DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — An overnight collision claimed the life of a man who had gotten out of his vehicle after a crash on a DeKalb County highway.

Police said they responded around 1:44 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a man hit by a vehicle on Highway 78 eastbound past Mountain Industrial Boulevard. The man was found dead at the scene.
Investigators with DeKalb County PD say the man was driving eastbound on the highway when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a guard rail. The man’s vehicle was straddling several lanes of travel.
The man got out of the vehicle and was standing next to it when he and the vehicle were hit by a tractor-trailer, police said.

The truck driver stayed at the scene.
DeKalb County PD say the crash is under investigation.
The man who was killed has not been identified.
