DeKalb County police, SWAT team respond to incident at Chamblee apartment complex

CHAMBLEE, Ga. — The DeKalb County Police Department and SWAT team were on scene at the Rosemont Chamblee apartments, where a standoff was active for about five hours.

DKPD said officers had gone to the apartment at 6:21 p.m. to respond to reports of someone being held against their will.

When officers arrived, they confirmed someone was inside and wouldn’t leave. SWAT officers came and while setting up, police said the suspect surrendered without incident.

Channel 2′s Elizabeth Rawlins was at the scene when police arrested the suspect.

A resident at the scene spoke to Rawlins about the incident.

“We’ve never seen anything like this. I’ve been here for almost three years and I’ve never seen this type of activity as far as police activity going on over here,” David Defrance, a neighbor, said.

DeKalb police detectives arrived on scene after and spoke to those involved. Police said the suspect was arrested and charged with battery, false imprisonment and pointing a pistol, while a female victim was taken to a hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

While details are unclear, police did confirm they are on scene at the location, but did not provide any information regarding why they responded to the apartment complex.
