Shooting suspect shot by officer while running from College Park police

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called out to a shooting involving a College Park police officer.

A neighbor shares footage she captured during the chase LIVE on Channel 2 at 5 p.m.

The GBI confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that College Park officers responded to reports of a person shot at an apartment building near West Fayetteville Road.

Another officer driving near Norman Drive spotted a man who matched the description of the shooting suspect. The officer attempted to stop him, but the man ran off.

While running, the man did not listen to the officer’s commands to stop and drop his firearm, so the officer shot him.

The GBI identified the man as Dwight Jaheem Robinson-Fikes, 31, of Jonesboro.

Robinson-Fikes was taken to the hospital, where he is stable.

During WSB Tonight at 11 p.m., Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers showed you a College Park police SUV in the middle of the road and evidence markers scattered on the pavement nearby.

One neighbor returned home to the street blocked with crime scene tape and couldn’t get to his townhome. He says their doorbell camera kept alerting them that something was going on.

It’s unclear if anyone was found to have been shot in the initial incident.

No officers were injured in the incident, according to the GBI.
