ATLANTA — Theatrical Outfit (TO) has launched its 50th anniversary season with a staging of August Wilson’s “Fences,” onstage now through Oct. 4.

Joining TO for the production are Dominion Entertainment Group (DEG) and Alabama Shakespeare Festival (ASF), where the entire production will travel following its run in Atlanta.
The plot: In 1950s Pittsburgh, Troy Maxson built fences to protect his family. But what happens when those walls keep dreams out? This American classic is an explosively funny and heartbreaking portrait of an American family, following a former Negro League baseball star as his dreams collide with his son’s aspirations.

“Fences” features an all-star Atlanta ensemble led by E. Roger Mitchell and January LaVoy, with Thomas Boyce, Amari Cheatom, Auset Jones, Enoch King, and Geoffrey Williams. Under the direction of Addae Moon, the design team includes: Scenic Design by Isabel & Moriah Curley-Clay, Costume Design by Shilla Benning, Wig Design by Angie Wright, Lighting Design by Ben Rawson, Sound Design by Chris Lane, Properties Management by Alexia Cheveney, and Stage Management by Stephanie S. Scott.
“For 50 years the cornerstone of our work has always been the creativity and artistic brilliance of Atlanta artists,” TO Artistic Director Matt Torney said in a statement. “From humble beginnings in a converted laundromat in Virginia-Highlands, to our wonderful theatre on Luckie Street, Theatrical Outfit’s work spans multiple generations of Atlanta talent that are deeply invested in our community.”
