GEORGIA — If you or a family member get their medical insurance through the Georgia Access portal, which is how Affordable Care Act insurance plans are managed, they may be shocked by how much prices are going up.
For the second year in a row, Georgia’s health premiums through the state’s marketplace are going up by double digits.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Georgia insurance officials approved price hikes among nine insurance providers between roughly 11% to as much as 40% for 2027.
Those increases build on similar premium cost increases in 2026.
The highest rate increase approved for Georgia’s approved insurers was 39.99% for UnitedHealthcare plans.

In 2026, premiums increased as much as 40%, across the 10 listed providers.
For the coming year’s insurance offerings, Georgia only has eight providers approved, with some only having one plan available.
The healthcare.gov site with the published premium changes for individual health plans shows that the rates for the coming year were approved in September.
State officials said that as of September, there were roughly 900,000 Georgians on state plans through the Georgia Access individual marketplace coverage.
Less than two years earlier, state officials had announced more than 1.5 million Georgians were on the same plans as of January 2025.
That is a nearly 40% decrease in enrollees using state-managed marketplace plans for individuals.
Earlier this year, Channel 2’s Michael Doudna spoke to metro Atlanta residents who were facing higher insurance premiums when the rates increased for 2026.
In addition to higher premiums, several methods for getting assistance through the federal government expired as well, complicating the process.
The deadline to apply for Affordable Care Act plans through Georgia Access is Jan. 15, 2027.
