Woman hit, killed after walking onto downtown Atlanta connector, police say

ATLANTA — Several lanes of the I-75/I-85 northbound connector were shut down for several hours overnight after a woman was hit by a car.

According to Atlanta police, the woman was hit just before 2:30 a.m. on the connector near Pine Street. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver who hit her and another witness stayed on the scene until police arrived.

They told officers that she walked on the interstate and several cars, including the driver, swerved to avoid hitting her. The driver was unsuccessful in swerving away and fatally hit her.

The woman’s name and what led up to her walking onto the interstate have not been released.
