ATLANTA, Ga. — One of the most anticipated traditions surrounding the annual Peachtree Road Race has arrived: the unveiling of this year’s official commemorative T-shirt.
Created by graphic designer, SCAD graduate and longtime runner Dyan Szall, the winning design, titled “We the Peaches,” celebrates Atlanta’s iconic landscape, the spirit of the nation’s 250th anniversary and the thousands of runners who make the Fourth of July race a beloved tradition.

Peachtree Road Race t-shirt design "Keeping the T-shirt design a secret started out as an accident, too – there was simply no reason to take them out of the containers in which they arrived until race day, hence few eyes were laid on them before that morning. But it felt like a secret, and as curiosity and anticipation built up over the years the Club began to embrace – and intensely guard – the tradition of not revealing the design until the first Peachtree finisher crosses the line," the AJC notes on its website.
2023 Peachtree Road Race "None of the Original 110 (participants) at the 1970 Peachtree got a shirt. There wasn’t one. Race founder Tim Singleton got the idea after he ran the Boston Marathon in 1971 and saw shirts for sale. So, in Year Two, the first 250 finishers received a shirt," the AJC notes. (KEN ORTLOFF)
“There is only one Peachtree,” said Rich Kenah, race director of the Peachtree and CEO of Atlanta Track Club. “And there is only one shirt. Nothing matches what this race means to the city of Atlanta, and I look forward to seeing which of these great designs gets runners and walkers most excited for the Fourth of July.”
The T-shirt contest has been a Peachtree tradition since 1995. The contest allows people to submit a design to be featured on the official race t-shirt. Judges pick the finalists and the public picks the winner from the finalists.
The winning design will join some of these from the past.

Designing the coveted race shirt is more than a professional milestone, it’s the realization of a lifelong dream, Szall said.
Born and raised in Marietta, Szall has been participating in the Peachtree Road Race since the age of 12. Like countless Atlantans, the annual race has become an essential part of Independence Day celebrations.
Szall’s favorite part of the race is conquering the hills after 17th St. and relaxing under the tree-lined Midtown skyline. This is the feeling he wanted to evoke in his T-shirt design.
“For America’s 250th, The US Constitution replaces asphalt on Peachtree Road and forms Cardiac Hill,” Szall wrote in a statement. “We the Peaches celebrates the community we build on Peachtree Road every July 4th.”
The artwork captures the feeling runners experience after cresting Cardiac Hill, when Peachtree Street opens into Midtown beneath a canopy of trees.
Rich with vibrant colors and symbolic imagery, “We the Peaches” honors America’s 250th anniversary while paying tribute to the city that has hosted one of the world’s largest 10K races for decades.
Each year, the official T-shirt becomes a collector’s item, proudly worn long after race day as a badge of accomplishment and Atlanta pride.
