GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Repair crew across Metro Atlanta are racing from house to house as the heat takes town one air conditioning system after another.

Technicians told Channel 2’s Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson that a little maintenance goes a long way in this summer heat.
Adrian Green, an H-VAC service technician for Reliable Heating and Air, said his phone has not stopped ringing as he is in and out of his van fixing air conditioners that gave out in the worst of this heat.
“Airflow is one of the biggest things that we see during this time of year that cause problems,” said Green.
Over in Lawrenceville, Ga., Caleb Kinsey is running a maintenance check he has done for ten years at Stuart Pro Heating and Air. He says the business takes hundreds of calls a day.
Kinsey said houses can barely cool off overnight, so the systems never get a break, and the damage starts long before a unit quits.
Both companies said they saw this week coming because the heat is only part of the problem. Humidity and other factors can cause your unit to struggle.
“Without maintaining your system, you tend to put stress on your compressors and your fans,” Kinsey said.
Closing blinds and running fans buys the system some help until the sun goes down.
