HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A 2-year-old girl required surgery after two of her toes were nearly cut off at a Henry County childcare center, and now the state is investigating.

For Zacheus and LaTiegre’ Daniel getting a call from Willoway Preschool in McDonough wasn’t out of the ordinary.
But in a call one morning a few weeks ago, “she said that she had to call the ambulance,” Jyensis’ mother said.
“She got on the phone, and she said the fire extinguisher was loose on the wall and it fell and it hit Jynesis’ foot,” LaTiegre’ recalled about the August 21st incident. And her husband’s reaction was enough to know something was seriously wrong.

“I immediately just broke down, like I was overwhelmed because just the side of my baby’s toes were dangling like they were barely attached to her foot,” said Zacheus Daniel, Jynesis’ father.
An ambulance rushed two-year-old Jynesis to Arthur M. Blank hospital where the toddler needed multiple surgeries.
“Two surgeries. They did one to reattach the toes. They monitored it for 24 hours. One of the toes didn’t take. It was still black and blue and they said you need to amputate to save the rest of the foot so it didn’t get infected,” said Zacheus.
Channel Two reached out to Georgia’s Department of Early Care and Learning who told Channel Two the center did report the incident and they’re investigating. The Daniels, they’ve reported the incident to Henry County Police. And they’ve retained an attorney.
“For her, for us, this is life changing,” said LaTiegre’.
Records show DECAL fined the school after an April incident where another two year-old was left outside unattended for 26 minutes.
Channel Two spoke to the owner at Willoway Preschool who said “Nothing matters more than the health and safety of Jynesis and the other children in our care but we’re under litigation at the moment so we can’t comment further.”
The Daniels say action should be taken.
“If I’m being honest, I want to school shut down because I feel like This wasn’t handled properly,” said LaTiegre’.
“I would like them to be held accountable. It’s not a lot they can actually do because you can’t bring her toe back,” said Zacheus.
