Lamar County Animal Services, along with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office and Lamar County Code Enforcement, executed a search warrant Wednesday on Bell Road.
Authorities seized 22 cats and four dogs from the property.
Two people were arrested and are facing 26 counts of cruelty to animals, along with additional charges, according to Lamar County Animal Services.
The animals are now in the custody of Lamar County Animal Services, where they are receiving care, assessments and veterinary treatment as needed.
Because the investigation is ongoing, the animals are not currently available for viewing, fostering, transfer or adoption.
The animal services facility is also temporarily closed to the public through Wednesday, August 19, as staff handle the increased number of animals and work related to the criminal cases.
Officials expect normal public access to resume Thursday, Aug. 20, unless the closure needs to be extended.
Barnesville Police Department Animal Control and Spalding County Animal Care and Control assisted with the operation.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials said no additional information is being released at this time.
