Mom of 8-year-old killed in wreck with stolen car: 'He was something special'

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — “He was something special. I’ll hold onto the memories. I’ll hold on to our memories," Wendy Mack said.

Mack talked to Channel 2's Liz Artz outside of the Fulton County Courthouse Thursday only minutes after the woman accused of killing her 8-year-old son stood before a judge.

It was the first time Mack came face-to-face with Ana Bolton.

“It’s a test of self-control more than anything," Mack told Artz.

Bolton is accused of carjacking a man June 27 and getting in a high-speed chase with police before slamming into the back of Mack's car at a traffic light.

Mack's two other young boys and her husband survived the crash.

“Knowing that my son is up there with a higher being that protects us all, it kind of helps me fight through this," said Jimmy Davis, the child’s father.

It came out in court that Bolton reached speeds of 120 mph. She hit Mack going 70 mph.

There was very little space between the back seat and the front seat where Jimaris was sitting.

The judge ruled there is probable cause to indict Bolton on all 11 charges, which range from felony murder and homicide by vehicle to having an expired license.

Bolton's mother was in court, too. She told Artz that her daughter is a good person who got mixed up with the wrong people.

“You all got to stop doing whatever it is you doing. All this carjacking and violence -- cease it, because innocent kids are being killed because of our negligence," Davis said.

Mack said she cries every day for the little boy she called Red.

“I just see Red laughing and joking and playing like he did," Mack said. %
