8-year-old injured in wreck with stolen car has died

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has confirmed that an 8-year-old boy -- critically injured when a stolen car hit the car he was in -- has died.

Jimaris Davis passed away Thursday after spending several days on life support.

was with Jimaris’ mother when she got the word that her son had passed away.

The mother told Artz why she believes the officers did not protect and serve.

"They are so wrong for taking my baby. He was 8," said mother Wendy Mack.

Mack says she wants her little boy back, but she knows that's not going to happen.

She is devastated and she is mad she lost her son over a car. She told Artz that she wants all police-chase policies to limit when an officer can give chase.

“I thank God for the 8 years I spent with that baby, oh Lord, thank you Jesus. I thank you for the 8 years I spent with that baby," Mack said. “That was my right hand man. I felt that baby's heartbeat. I told you I didn't have much time and my baby was tired, my baby was so tired. My baby is gone."

The mother of three couldn't be with her son because she is still recovering from her own injuries at Grady Memorial Hospital. She agreed to continue with our interview because she wants the public to know she is mad.

"She should have never been chased. The law is put there to protect and serve," Mack said about the wreck that killed her son.

Mack, her husband, Jimmy Davis, and their three children, ages 10, 8 and 3, were riding in a Dodge Charger Monday when police say Ana Bolton slammed into her after a nearly 3-mile-long police chase.

“I looked up and saw that lady coming and all I could say was, ‘Oh Lord,’" Mack said.

in Atlanta. Investigators say she was behind the wheel of the stolen Dodge Challenger when she was spotted on Camp Creek Parkway and led police on a chase.

East Point police said their officer operated within their chase policy. Mack thinks that policy needs to be changed.

“They are so wrong for taking my baby. He was 8. My baby wanted to play football so bad," Mack said.

Mack's husband and 3-year-old are both recovering from serious injuries.

The other driver waived her first appearance in court.
