ATLANTA — Two metro-Atlanta communities said trains and railroad construction left them feeling trapped this week.

“It’s inconsiderate and disrespectful to the residents,” said Bruce Baxter.
Baxter lives at a complex that serves people who are 55 and older on Murphy Ave. SW near Atlanta’s West End.
He said trains block the Lee St. intersection for hours, even days at a time.
“Last week, it was sitting there for two days straight,” said Baxter.
He said driving around it is not an option for many of his neighbors. He said not everyone has a car and a lot of people use canes and walkers for mobility assistance.
“My fiancée is on a walker. We can’t walk anywhere,” said Baxter.

People have reported the train blocking this intersection 22 times in the past year, according to the Federal Railroad Administration.
Some people reported people crawling over cars. Others documented first responder vehicles blocked.
While we checked in on that neighborhood, another community called for help.
They said Norfolk Southern has closed a crossing in Duluth for maintenance this week.
That left some trapped in their employer’s parking lot Tuesday night. That is located at 3625 Burford Hwy.
Norfolk Southern has not responded to comment at this time.
