Walmart customers are reacting to word that the big-box retailer is planning to pass its federal relief on to its customers.

Landscaper Christopher Brown wishes somebody would lower the prices of gasoline and groceries.

“I feel like it’s a good thing, because people nowadays are struggling in every way,” Brown said.

He and his wife are loyal customers of the Lithia Springs Walmart. Brown says he’s encouraged by word that the retail giant plans to put its $2.9 billion tariff refund from the federal government toward lowering customer prices.

“Prices have to come back down. This is crazy,” said Debbie Ginocchio, one of the directors of the nonprofit Sweetwater Mission in Austell.

She says the number of people needing their help has spiked, right along with the prices for everything.

Parthenia Walker has 10 children and is a longtime Sweetwater Mission client who gets free groceries here because even Walmart is more than she can afford.

“If Walmart cuts prices, it’ll help my family out big time,” Walker said.

Ginocchio hopes all retailers that received a tariff refund will do likewise.

“Are you hoping they follow through?” Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen asked.

“I do hope they follow through, and I hope they do in a big way. It really does make a difference to everybody,” Ginocchio said.

Brown says it just might restore his faith in corporate America.

“By people going out every day spending money and working, they should be able to have some kind of a break. And with Walmart giving them a break, it’s a good idea. It’s a good thing,” Christopher said.
