CULLMAN, Ala. — A Villa Rica man is facing multiple charges after police say he led officers on a high-speed chase.

Cullman police in Alabama said the chase began around 12:19 a.m. on Aug. 29 when an officer tried to stop a 2012 Nissan Maxima on Alabama Highway 157 near County Road 1188.
Police said the driver, Kenyon Joiner, 31, of Villa Rica, refused to stop and sped away.
During the chase, officers said Joiner drove south on Highway 157 at speeds exceeding 130 mph. Authorities said he also drove on the wrong side of the road, turned off his headlights and threw items from the car while trying to get away from officers.

Authorities said an officer deployed spike strips, disabling one tire on the car. A short time later, another officer deployed more spike strips, disabling the remaining three tires and forcing the car to stop.
With help from officers and deputies with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, Joiner was taken into custody.
A records check revealed Joiner had active warrants in Georgia for evading and resisting arrest, according to police.
Officers later recovered items that had been thrown from the car during the chase and identified them as a controlled substance.
Joiner was booked into the Cullman County Detention Center on charges of attempting to elude, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said additional traffic citations were also issued.
No injuries were reported during the chase.
