ATLANTA — Body camera video captured the intense moments that Atlanta officers rushed to rescue a driver who had a seizure and was trapped in a burning car.
The accident happened Saturday evening at the Shell gas station off Campbellton Road in southwest Atlanta.
Police said the driver crashed while having a seizure. Officers had to break the windows to get inside and pull him out.
“At that moment as smoke starts to rise, we see flames in the vehicle at this gas station. Our main focus was getting this guy to safety,” said Sgt. Dekonti Davis.
Davis described it as a real team effort.
“It was really like another day at the officer. Another day of hard work especially in the current climate of law enforcement. We did not see it like that. We just saw a life that needed to be saved,” he said.
The driver and a couple of officers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
