Roswell Fire Department was called to Towneship Way after someone reported the fawn stuck in a gully.

When firefighters arrived, they found the animal injured and unable to climb out. The fawn appeared to have been struck by a vehicle before making its way into the retention area, according to the Roswell Fire Department.

Luckily, help was on the way.

A representative from the Georgia Wildlife Network was at the scene and worked with firefighters to rescue the animal. Fire crews made their way into the retention area, safely secured the fawn and handed it over to the wildlife representative.

The fawn was then taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment.

The rescue also came with a reminder from firefighters: Don’t try to become a wildlife rescue hero on your own.

Retention areas and creek banks can be much steeper and less stable than they appear, the department said. Anyone who finds an injured animal should contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or call 911.

“We would rather send a crew than have someone get hurt trying to help,” the department said.
