Jonathan Bruney said the 4- to 5-foot alligator rammed into him and bit his upper arm while he was out training with his team, according to WRDW.

He said he grabbed the gator’s head and jammed his thumbs into its eyes, causing it to release him.

He swam to a nearby dock and yelled for all of the members of his team to get out of the water.

Everyone made it safely to shore, Augusta Press reported.

Emergency responders treated the bite on Bruney’s arm, and he said he is recovering.
