The victim was identified as a 29-year-old Atlanta man who died at Grady Memorial Hospital. His identity hasn’t been disclosed pending next-of-kin notification.

Schierbaum said it’s believed the violence started with an argument.

The police chief said “no continued threat” exists for the general public. The popular Beltline area is protected with a special police unit.

However, he said the suspect had 30 previous arrests and was out of custody under supervised release.

“Should this individual have been out of jail?” Schierbaum asked.
