Family confirms man missing from East Point is dead

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed a body was found in East Point earlier Sunday afternoon.

Now the family of Derek Samuel has confirmed in a statement sent to Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers that they are grieving his loss.

“Although this is not the outcome we all prayed for, unfortunately it has now become our reality. Thank you to everyone who has prayed on our behalf and we ask that you continue to keep us covered in your prayers as we navigate this difficult time. It’s hard y’all, we just ask for some privacy to grieve now please.”

The body was found in a location near Camp Creek Marketplace, authorities said.

It is the same area from where Samuel went missing in late April.

Samuel’s family and authorities launched multiple searches in an attempt to find him.

The medical examiner didn’t confirm the body’s identity or a specific spot where the body was found.

Channel 2 Action News has reached out to East Point PD with no response so far.
