CONYERS, Ga. — The Conyers City Council announced plans to roll back the millage rate for property owners in the city limits.
That means, according to city officials, that the millage rate will go from 13.5 mills to 13.296 mils.
“This will be the eighth year in the past twelve years where the city has lowered the millage rate, with five of them being the full rollback,” the city said in a statement.
While the city plans to lower the millage rate, that doesn’t necessarily mean the property taxes owed will shrink.

City officials said the board of tax assessors has to review assessed values of property in the city that is taxable, adding that the prices of properties recently sold in Conyers showed increases in fair market values.
As a result, tax assessors have to re-determine the property values in the city and adjust assessments.
Conyers said no reassessments had happened this year so the city could adopt the full rollback millage rate for its residents.
“I am excited that the City of Conyers is able to adopt the full rollback millage rate for our residents, especially at a time when families are facing increasing costs in their everyday lives,” Mayor Connie Alsobrook said in a statement. “This rollback reflects our commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and making every taxpayer dollar count while continuing to provide the quality services our community expects and deserves.”
An Aug. 19 hearing at City Hall will finalize the millage rate through an expected council vote.
