COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Marietta police are warning parents about so-called foam parties that are often advertised on the Internet and held at bars and clubs across metro Atlanta.
Police are concerned about promoters attracting younger teens at the foam-filled gatherings. Officers said they have seen gang problems, lewd behavior and occasional violence surrounding the parties. After a foam party last week, fights broke out outside a club, several people were arrested and an officer was hurt.
"Sometimes at foam parties, you have a good crowd. People dance," said a man identified only as Duncan. "But then you also have foam parties that can get a little out of control."
Police said promoters often advertise admission with no identification, though many of the clubs sell alcohol.
"The message we want parents to really understand is that there's a lot of dangerous things that go on at these clubs," Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin told Channel 2's Ross Cavitt.
Police said a foam party at a bar on the Church Street Extension last week got out of hand. The promoter ended the party, crowds spilled into the streets and officers were called in for reports of weapons and fighting.
Two men, Shondrez Daniels and Donquarious Bell, were jailed on obstruction, fighting and drug charges. One of the suspects was struck with a stun gun and hospitalized, and an officer was injured.
Duncan said parents have a role to play to prevent the violence.
"Parents also need to be involved in their children's lives, anywhere, anything they do," he said.
