Armed suspect standoff closes busy road in Forsyth County

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A suspect who fired shots in a domestic dispute led to a standoff with SWAT on Tuesday.

Law enforcement closed Kelly Mill Road between Johnson Road and Barrett Downs Drive.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department asked people to avoid the area.

The Barrett Downs subdivision was asked to shelter in place and be on the lookout for a possible gunman.

If you see anything suspicious, you are urged to call 911.

Channel 2’s Tom Jones was live at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said somebody is armed and barricaded inside a home. They said they are in a possible standoff with the barricaded gunman.

News Chopper 2 was above the scene as officers and SWAT moved in toward the home. We also captured a remote-controlled robot being dispatched towards the home.

Deputies said this all started when the suspect was involved in a domestic dispute with shots fired around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Someone in the house escaped so deputies are unsure if the gunman is in the house or not.
