Passenger dies after driver going too fast on wet roads hits an embankment, troopers say

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia State Patrol said one person died in a crash Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on Ga. 211 in Hall County.

Troopers said Estala was traveling too fast for the wet road conditions and went off the east shoulder of the roadway.

GSP officials said 67-year-old Jose Luis Estala of Gainesville was driving a 2007 Dodge Caravan south and attempted to turn right.

When the Caravan went off the roadway, authorities said it hit an embankment head-on. It then rotated counterclockwise and stopped on the east shoulder of the road.

GSP said upon impact, the passenger in the backseat, 69-year-old Silvia Franco Mireles of Braselton, was thrown from the van and died.

The crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
