Members of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly of Georgia and the Georgia Republican Party hosted the event, where people spoke out against Cuba’s communist regime.

Organizers say thousands in Cuba are desperate for food and water amid widespread protests in the nation as citizens fight for their freedom.

“The government is fully in control of food and water. They will stop supply of food and water and they are going to stop the people,” said Ross Osaba, the son of Cuban immigrants living in Brookhaven.

“We want the American people to know that just as we have fought for civil rights and human rights for every other country in the world, we want the same for Cuba, and that’s the bottom line,” said protester Angie Moore.

Speakers included Cuban refugees, Fire Commissioner John King, Loganville Mayor Rey Martinez and Former Democrat-turned-Republican and gubernatorial candidate Vernon Jones.

“They need to be free. They need to be liberated,” Jones said. “And I want the United States of America to step up to the plate and help these people secure their freedom. Cuba can clearly show you that communism and socialism does not work.”

Several speakers at the Sandy Springs rally warned against communist and socialist forms of government.

“The Democratic socialists of America have waged a psychological war like no other,” a representative from the Republican National Hispanic Assembly of Georgia said. “The middle class collectively has a lot of property and wealth. We are on the precipice of Communism.”

“I think this one is different because they’ve picked up a huge volume of people that have said enough is enough,” Osaba said.
