ATLANTA — In a little less than an hour, part of Interstate 285 will close, and drivers will need to pay close attention.

This time, the full closure is between Cascade Road and Langford Parkway in southwest Atlanta.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said the closures are part of its I-285 Westside Rebuild project.

Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers reports businesses are concerned because one of the major detours for the full closure, Fairburn Road, is also partially closed.

Rogers saw cars cutting through the Walmart parking lot.

The Fairburn Road closure is only impacting the bridge over the Utoy creek, but drivers and business owners in the area think it’ll still make more of a mess once 285 is shut down.

That’s because for the other interstate closures from Cascade to Langford, Fairburn Road used to be a main detour.

Drivers told Rogers they’re concerned the Walmart parking lot will become extra congested with people trying to cut through or the official detour on Lindhurst Drive will be completely overwhelmed this weekend.

Rogers spoke to the co-owner of Bosk on Fairburn. She says they’re bracing for the potential impacts.

“We’re already on a residential road, so we already lose there,” Narie Robinson said. “But in addition to being on a residential road and now experiencing two closures at one time, it is very is is going to be a very life-changing weekend, to say the least.”
