THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. — A Florida man is passing through Georgia, spreading a message of love, after losing his son to suicide.
Steve Fugate, 76, from Vera Beach, Florida, is on a mission to spread love and compassion.
This is his ninth trip across the United States. Fugate’s first walk was in 2001.

He wants everyone to know that life is precious.
“For reasons we’ll never fully understand, of course, my son ended his life,” Fugate said. “I’m making my babies proud. That’s what I’m doing and that’s the gist of it.”
Fugate said he gets about seven to 14 miles per day with a couple of days rest in between.
