BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — A DeKalb County jury found a New York man guilty of shooting and killing someone he knew inside a Brookhaven tattoo shop.
Percy Scott, 33, died in the shooting on March 21, 2024. Jonathan Thomas, 35, was convicted on Sept. 17 of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault and other charges.

According to the investigation, Brookhaven police responded around 10:20 p.m. to a shooting call at a tattoo shop in the 4400 block of Chamblee Dunwoody Road.
When officers arrived, they found Scott lying face down just inside the door with no signs of life. The tattoo shop owner, who called 911, told police he knew Scott as “Peanut” and Thomas by the nickname “T.”
Police said all three men knew each other and had separately moved to metro Atlanta from Buffalo.

The shop owner explained that Peanut and T argued and then started fighting. The owner tried to break up the fight, but when that did not work, he stepped away.
He then heard gunshots and ran to the convenience store next door to call for help.
Officers reviewed surveillance video from the area. Police said the video showed a man arriving in a red Hyundai and leaving in the same car right after the shooting.
Investigators found the car at an apartment complex in Sandy Springs and connected the license plate back to Thomas.
Police later returned to the tattoo shop, where the owner identified Thomas as the shooter in a photo lineup.
Officers also got surveillance video from inside the tattoo shop and reviewed it with help from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Police said the video showed Thomas started the fight by striking Scott and then shot Scott multiple times, killing him.
Right after the guilty verdict, a judge sentenced Thomas to life with the possibility of parole plus 15 years.
