CAROLLTON, Ga. — A 24-year-old man is dead and another man is facing murder charges after a shooting at a Carrollton apartment complex Sunday night, police said.

Carrollton police said officers were called to Magnolia Lakes Apartments on Sept. 13 after reports of a person being shot.
Officers found Malachi Manjuan Smith, 24, outside suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided aid before Smith was taken to Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, where he later died.
Police identified Matthew DeAndre Durrett, 28, of Carrollton, as the suspect. Investigators said Durrett approached officers at the scene and identified himself as the shooter.

Durrett has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Police said the two men knew each other, lived in the same building and had been involved in disputes. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the two men.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
