Georgia officer shot and killed. GBI issues blue alert for suspect

MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. — An armed and dangerous suspect is on the run after an Georgia officer was shot and killed.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that Warm Springs Officer Chris Fisher died in a shooting outside a motel.

Police are now searching for Jimmie Lee Steverson, who is considered armed and dangerous. He was last seen traveling in a 2026 black Chevrolet Silverado.

“If you see him or see any suspicious activity, please take immediate precautions and notify 911,” the GBI says.

All the latest developments in the search for the suspect, on Channel 2 Action News This Morning from 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The GBI says the shooting happened around 11:57 p.m. Tuesday. Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach reported live outside the Meriwether Country Inn on Spring Street throughout the morning.

There is still a large police presence with Warm Springs officers, Meriwether County deputies and GBI agents on the scene.
