Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has endorsed Mike Collins for U.S. Senate, backing the Republican congressman in his race against Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff.

Kemp announced his endorsement Monday, saying Collins shares his commitment to Georgia and praising Collins’ record as a businessman and member of Congress.
“Mike Collins and I share a commitment to making Georgia an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” Kemp said. “I’m proud to endorse Mike Collins for the U.S. Senate, and I know he’ll always put Georgia first.”
Collins thanked Kemp for his support and said the two are united in their effort to defeat Ossoff.

“I’m honored to have Governor Kemp’s endorsement and even more proud to call him a friend,” Collins said.
Ossoff’s campaign responded to the endorsement with a statement criticizing both Collins and Kemp.
“There’s a reason Brian Kemp worked so hard to defeat bigot Mike Collins in the GOP primary and waited to endorse the congressman until less than two months from Election Day,” the Ossoff campaign said.
The campaign also accused Collins of being “surrounded at work and at home by neo-Nazis and white nationalists.”
The Collins campaign statement did not address those allegations.
The two candidates are competing for Georgia’s U.S. Senate seat in the November election.
