Police officer celebrated as hero after saving 2 lives in just 8 days

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A police officer in Henry County is being hailed as a hero after he saved two people’s lives in just eight days.

City of Hampton police officer Mason Lewis was honored by the Hampton City Council and the mayor with a proclamation honoring his actions.

The Hampton City Council wrote that on July 13, Lewis responded to a domestic dispute where a man ran his ex-wife off the road and then attacked her with a machete. When Lewis arrived on the scene, he found the woman with her arm severed below the elbow. He applied a tourniquet to her arm to stop the bleeding prior to paramedics arriving. She survived the attack.

“In both incidents, Officer Lewis' quick thinking and courageous response can be credited with saving the lives of these individuals,” the city council wrote.

Mayor Steve Hutchison said said he and the city council commend Lewis' actions and “extend to him and his family the heartfelt gratitude of the community he serves.”
