GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A 5-month-old child is in critical condition after alleged abuse, according to police.

Gainesville police arrested Ulices Govanni Aldaco following an investigation into the alleged abuse of the child.
Police said officers were contacted after the 5-month-old was taken to a hospital with injuries and concerns consistent with abuse and sexual trauma.
The child remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit at a children’s hospital.

Police did not release details regarding the relationship between the child and the suspect.
Aldaco is being held at the Hall County Jail on charges of aggravated sexual battery and child abuse.
The investigation remains ongoing.
