Officials with the Habersham County School District have decided to delay the start of the school day by two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

District officials posted the below statement on their website:

Due to the unusual combination of very dense fog and heavy rain and thunderstorms, Habersham County Schools will operate on a 2 hour delay on Wednesday, January 4th.

We have consulted with a meteorologist who advised that Habersham will likely deal with fog and storms in the morning hours.

We cannot recall a time when we have had dense fog mixed with heavy rain and storms. Our concern is for our school buses being able to navigate safely in the morning. The two hour delay will allow school buses and student drivers to deal with these unusual conditions in the daylight. Without a delay, our buses would have to deal with both the fog and storms in darkness.
