GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga — The newest and youngest Gwinnett County K-9 is the only hound dog in the unit, and she’s already helped make an arrest after only a few weeks on the job.
Sika is trained to be a tracking dog, less aggressive than her K-9 co-workers. She is called in to help find missing children, adults and even fugitives.

On Monday, her training kicked in in a big way when police needed help finding 22-year-old Nicholas Rohrer.
They say he caused a crash on Highway 316 at Drowning Creek Road that seriously hurt at least one person before running off into the woods.

A three-hour and nearly 2-mile search ended with Sika leading her handler, Sgt. Brandon Townley, right to the suspect, who, officials say, was hiding in a chicken coop.
At least 80 suspects have been arrested by Gwinnett’s K-9 unit this year, according to the unit supervisor. They hope to have two more K-9s by next year.
