The payments are part of the 2026 Homeowner Tax Relief Grant program approved in the budget earlier this year. The one-time program will refund a combined $950 million.

Eligible homeowners can see an $18,000 reduction in their assessed values for the 2026 tax year. The relief goes straight onto property tax bills and lowers the amount homeowners owe, according to the state.

Some homeowners may already see the savings on bills that have gone out. How much your property tax bills goes down by will vary.

“Along with our partners in the General Assembly, we are delivering on our promise to make life more affordable for hardworking Georgians by providing needed relief for homeowners from property taxes,” Kemp said.
