The family of the victim, Zadarious Dorsey, 18, of Newnan, said they want answers.

They spoke exclusively to Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers. They said nobody from the GBI has contacted them, and they haven’t been able to identify Dorsey’s body.

“I’m waiting up every day for this child to get here, and he ain’t coming. No traces of him,” Dorsey’s aunt, Angela Brown said.

According to the GBI, the shooting happened around 1 a.m. near Cliff Circle after a Newnan police officer followed a white car that had been driving near the intersection of Dodson Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The GBI did not say why the officer followed the car initially.

Authorities said the car stopped on Cliff Circle, and the officer approached to speak with the driver. Five men then got out of the vehicle. One walked toward a nearby home while four others ran away.

The officer chased one of the men, later identified as Dorsey.

During the chase, the officer repeatedly told Dorsey to stop, investigators said. The officer also used a Taser, but it was ineffective.

According to the GBI, the officer then saw Dorsey pull a gun from his waistband. Investigators said the officer ordered him to stop and drop the gun before firing multiple shots.

Dorsey’s family said they have questions and want answers.

“We need to know why y’all followed them, when did you cut your light on, it was just one officer, when did you call for back up,” Dorsey’s aunt, Shannon Arnold said.

Officers provided medical aid until paramedics arrived. Dorsey was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The GBI said a gun was recovered at the scene.

The family said they want to see the body camera footage.

“He wasn’t no criminal. He was somebody, and I loved him,” Brown said.

The family said Dorsey was a senior at Newnan High School and had plans of joining the Navy after graduation.

The Coweta County NAACP says they are getting involved in the case.

The family is having a protest at the Newnan Police Department Friday at 2 p.m.
