AUGUSTA, Ga. — A gun was found in the backpack of an elementary school student on the first day of class, officials said.
The principal of Richmond Hill Elementary School said in a letter to parents Wednesday that someone discovered the gun just before dismissal, WJBF reported.
Richmond County Schools police responded and got the weapon.
“At no point were students or staff believed to be in danger,” Principal Tomekia Darrisaw wrote.
