NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite Hospital was assessing damage Sunday night after a fire sprinkler line broke and caused a water leak, officials said.
The leak happened on the second floor and affected portions of the first floor and basement, according to a statement by the hospital.
“No patients have been transferred or are being transferred from Scottish Rite,” the hospital said in a statement. “Only select patients referred from other hospitals to Scottish Rite are being directed to Egleston and Hughes Spalding.”
Channel 2′s Audrey Washington was at Scottish Rite, where officials said the water leak was contained immediately and crews mobilized to contain the situation. No patients at Scottish Rite were affected.
Washington talked to visitors who were there the moment the line broke.
“Tiles were actually falling on the floor, like, hitting the floor,” Kevin Payne said.
“The hallway on the first floor had an inch of water, completely covered all the way down the hallway, and they have the main entrance blocked off all the way to the elevators," Jonathan Carter said earlier Saturday. "They’re detouring people through the auditorium right now.”
Hospital officials told Washington the situation is contained and the emergency department remains open.
The news comes just weeks after a water pipe broke at Grady Memorial Hospital on Dec. 7, 2019. Officials there said the damage will take months to repair.
