FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Fulton County Board of Education announced Thursday its intention to increase 2026 property taxes by 3.08% over the rollback millage rate. School officials are recommending a millage rate of 18.080 for the tax year.

Under Georgia law, when rising property values increase the total digest of taxable property, local governments must compute a rollback millage rate. That rate determines what millage would generate the same total tax revenue as the previous year without property reassessments.
Because the school board’s newly approved budget requires a millage rate above that rollback threshold, state law mandates three public hearings before a final vote.
Each year, the county board of tax assessors reviews the assessed value of taxable property across Fulton County. When recent property sales indicate an increase in fair market value, state law requires assessors to adjust property values accordingly through a process known as reassessment.
