FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police say an infant is safe after they arrested the child’s father after he assaulted the infant’s mother.
Fulton County police say they were called to the Fulton County Elections Hub on Campbellton Fairburn Road around 12:30 p.m. for a fight.
When they arrived, a Fulton County employee said she had been assaulted by her 8-week-old son’s father, Richard Benton. She says Benton left with the child.

Investigators learned that Benton had the victim’s cellphone and was able to get him to answer it.
Officers told him that their primary concern was the safety of the infant, and was able to convince Benton to surrender.
Benton pulled over at the College Park MARTA station and waited for police to come.

He was arrested and the infant was safely reunited with his mother.
Police say criminal charges are pending against Benton.
