FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Fulton County Schools announced Sunday that the district will return to full-time, face-to-face instruction as planned on October 14.
Superintendent Mike Looney said in a statement to parents Sunday that parents will continue to have the option for students to learn remotely.
“Throughout the process, the district has been consistent in stating that data will drive our decision about safety and reopening,” Looney said in a video.

Looney said the Fulton County Board of Health has been the district’s primary source of data. Looney said they will make any future decisions on a school-by-school basis unless there is significant further spread in the community.
“We understand this news will be met by some with excitement, and others with disappointment,” Looney said. “As we navigate the uncertainty of this pandemic, we will remain steadfast in making safety our primary focus for decisions about school closure and operations.”
Looney said there’s always the possibility of returning to remote learning if needed.
Fulton County was the first district to report staff members sick with COVID-19 back in March when the pandemic began.
