FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — A metro Atlanta city is increasing how much you’re paying for water.
The city of Fayetteville announced increases to its water and sewage rates, effective Aug. 1.
That means the next bill residents and commercial customers will see will be a little more expensive, though the city’s estimates show it won’t be more than $1 or $2 higher, based on use.

Officials said the city has been incrementally increasing fees for water and sewer service to cover costs of upgrading and maintaining its aging systems for several years now.
The city said a similar set of increases were put in place to pay for the replacement of the stormwater system and the increased maintenance costs after.

According to Fayetteville, the city’s public water system was first built in the 1930s and 1940s, then expanded in the 1960s, 1970s and 1990s.
In the intervening years, the system has continued to see expansion but “much of that infrastructure is now old and routinely needs repair and replacement.”
The city council voted in August 2025 to approve the rate increases over five years, for a total of a 5% increase by the 2030 fiscal year.
On bills in September, Fayetteville water customers will see a 3% increase, the city said in a statement.
Fees for bulk and yard waste for sanitation will remain their current $4 monthly fee.
