2 dead after apparent murder-suicide shooting in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Two people are dead, including the suspected shooter, after a shooting Tuesday night in southwest Atlanta.

Atlanta police said officers were called around 8:14 p.m. to 2705 Head Road SW after receiving a report of a person shot.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male who appeared to be wounded. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police said officers then searched a nearby wood line, where they found the suspected shooter. Investigators said the suspect had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The department said the incident appears to be isolated and there is no threat to the community.

Investigators with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene to determine what led to the shooting.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and the information released is preliminary and could change as investigators learn more.

Police said the investigation is “highly active and ongoing.”

No additional details about the victim or circumstances surrounding the shooting have been released.
