CLAYTON, Ga. — Clayton State University and Atlanta Public Schools have partnered to launch Atlanta Early College at Clayton State University.
The initiative gives high school students the opportunity to earn college credits and higher education credentials while completing their high school diplomas.

The program will serve Atlanta Public Schools juniors and seniors through two academic pathways.
Students in the Associate Degree Pathway can earn an Associate of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Clayton State University. Those in the Transitional Pathway can earn up to 45 hours of college credit.
All participating students will receive a certificate in Artificial Intelligence by the end of the program.
Courses will be offered through Clayton State University in person on its Morrow campus, as well as through online and hybrid learning formats. Clayton State will provide university facilities along with academic and student support services to assist participants.
Atlanta Public Schools will manage student recruitment, applications and recommendation processes.
The school district will also provide dedicated program leadership, counseling, transportation and meal services, while partnering with Clayton State to deliver ongoing student advising.
To help students transition to college coursework, the partnership features Smart Start Early College, a two-week, non-residential readiness experience.
The component includes academic activities, personalized coaching, cultural enrichment and student engagement, followed by continued academic support throughout the program.

Clayton State University President Dr. Georj L. Lewis said the program’s focus on long-term student development.
“Through this partnership, we are preparing them not only to earn college credit, but also to succeed in higher education and complete a degree. The AEC at Clayton State goes beyond providing access and possibilities, it’s designed to produce outcomes that lead toward meaningful careers.”
The first Atlanta Early College cohort at Clayton State University is expected to begin in August 2027.
Recruitment efforts, including family outreach and information sessions, will take place during the 2026-27 academic year.
