ATLANTA — Georgia drivers are paying an average of $3.86 per gallon for regular gasoline as Gov. Brian Kemp’s suspension of the state gas tax remains in effect through Oct. 29.
While fuel prices remain higher compared to recent years, AAA officials say lower crude oil prices and the tax pause have helped lower costs at the pump.

“Drivers are getting some welcome relief at the pump as lower crude oil prices and Georgia’s suspension of the state gas tax help keep fuel costs in check,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “While gas prices have dipped below $4 a gallon, drivers can save even more by driving efficiently, staying current on vehicle maintenance, and combining errands when possible.”
Currently, the gas price average dropped 33 cents from last week and three cents from last month. However, gas prices across the state remain 96 cents higher than at the same time last year, bringing the cost of filling a standard 15-gallon tank to approximately $57.90.

On the national level, pump prices have also started easing after hitting highs in September. The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline fell 11 cents over the past week to $4.36 per gallon.
The decline follows a record-setting September at gas stations across the United States.
The September 2024 national monthly average reached $4.33 per gallon, surpassing the previous September record average of $3.83 set in 2023 by 50 cents.
Crude oil prices in the low-$90-per-barrel range have helped reduce pump prices, though overall costs remain near record levels for this time of year.
