Gun found at Douglas County High School during fight involving 4 students

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga — During an altercation between four Douglas County High School students on Sep. 19, administrators say they found an unloaded weapon fall to the pavement.

In an email to Channel 2 Action News, the Douglas County School district said police moved quickly to maintain campus safety and to ensure no one was harmed or injured.

Law enforcement agencies will issue appropriate sanctions to the student involved and may extend to the videographers and spectators who incited the altercation. The district’s top priority is providing a safe environment for Douglas County students and staff.

The district did not disclose any names or its plans for discipline.

“Weapons are prohibited on all campuses. We urge students to alert an educator if they know or suspect anyone possessing a weapon. Reporting safety concerns is a collective responsibility that allows our law enforcement officers to maintain the safety and security of our campuses,” the district said. “We also encourage our families to have conversations with students about school safety. These crucial conversations are vital to ensuring Douglas County campuses remain safe spaces for our students to learn and grow.”
