DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A woman who survived a shooting that killed one person and injured another claims she's going to do whatever it takes to bring the shooter to justice.

Detectives are still searching for the gunman who opened fire in the parking lot of the Acapulco restaurant and bar on Buford Highway in Brookhaven on Sunday.

Paula Gaitan told Channel 2's Michael Seiden that she still has a bullet lodged in her arm.

She said she was with a friend sitting inside an SUV when bullets started flying through the windows.

"I felt the impact. It hit me so hard,” Gaitan said.

As soon as she saw the blood gushing from her arm, the mother of two said she knew she had been shot.

“I had a gunshot (wound) to the arm and then I opened the door and I fell to the ground," Gaitan told Seiden.

She said she and her friend had just left Acapulco bar and restaurant around 2 a.m. when a fight broke out in the parking lot.
Police said, at some point, a vehicle pulled up to a cab and someone started shooting.
The gunfire killed Kevin Carranza Acosta, 21, and injured the cab driver.

From there, investigators said, the shooter returned to the restaurant parking lot, firing at random.

On Tuesday, Gaitan showed Seiden where she had been sitting when the bullets started flying through her window. She said she thought she was going to die.

“I wanted to protect myself. Ask God. I thought I was going to die," Gaitan said.

Amid all the chaos, the DeKalb County mother managed to crawl to safety. She said she remained strong, fighting through the pain while thinking about her two young children.

The motive behind the shooting remains a mystery.

Police said they aren’t sure if they are looking for one or multiple shooters.
